After the concert for the
Friends of Lodge Hill, Zoe received this from Howard Bottomley:
"Thank you for giving us such an enjoyable concert at Lodge Hill
last Friday. You and your pianist and singers gave us a delightful and varied
programme, just right for a summer's evening. You have certainly assembled and
trained an excellent choir ......I received many comments about what an
enjoyable occasion it had been ...... You and the choir generated a very
pleasant friendly atmosphere."
Following our performance at St
Mary's House, Bramber, owner Peter Thorogood had this to say:
"....thank you most warmly for the wonderful concert with
Kaleidoscope. Looking back over what has been an exceptional year for St Mary's,
I can only say that your programme was so well presented and was one of the most
memorable moments."
In the summer of 2006
Kaleidoscope sang at the wedding of Catherine and Dean Williams who emailed us
their thanks:
"I am writing to say just how amazing you all were on our wedding
day. We are so delighted that you were part of our day and you truly did make
our wedding service so special, people just can't stop talking about it!!
....I am so thankful to you for making our guests feel so
comfortable prior to the service. When I arrived I felt so supported in your
singing of the hymns and the performance during the signing of the register was
FANTASTIC!!!"
Writing in the West Sussex
County Times, Amanda Smith reviewed our recent concert at the Steyning Methodist
Church:
"..... a moving arrangement of The Londonderry
Air – again by Chilcott .... highlighted the rapport between
choir, conductor and their sensitive accompanist, Rachel
Lambert.
'All
Creatures Now' and 'The Silver Swan' – the first
with some lovely dynamics and ensemble singing - the second
with sustained lines and a feeling for the phrasing brought
out the best in these glorious pieces."
But for some of our audience the
only way to express their enthusiasm is in verse! This poem was
written by loyal supporter, Geoff King
The
Kaleidoscope Choir
When Zoë created Kaleidoscope
Giving embryo
singers a small ray of hope
She looked for some
songsters who had perfect pitch
A foundation on
which the others to stitch
Some came with
their voices melodic and sweet
Some sang as if
voice was attached to their feet
And one of her
principal problems was that
Some of the singers
at best were B flat!
She encouraged,
cajoled and sometimes berated
Until at the end
she became quite elated
When at last they
became like a heavenly choir
Some singing low –
and some singing higher
Now this wasn’t
achieved through outpouring of love
It was more iron
fist than a soft velvet glove
For this tuneful
and uplifting sound that you hear
Comes a little from
talent – but much more from fear!
Now over the years
we’ve derived lots of pleasure
From the music
provided by this Steyning treasure
For with Gary, such
music she’s given to us
No sign of effort,
no bother, no fuss
The Kaleidoscope
concerts provide much renown
In the cultural
life of this Sussex town
Now those of us
loyal over many a year
Can look forward to
music delighting the ear
The repertoire
increases with each passing day
Improvement in
quality – what can one say
The harmonic
improvements, the voices now blend
As the sounds of
the choir to the rafters ascend
I’m sorry to go on
at such boring length
But you really have
gone on from strength to strength
If you’ll go on
singing to give us a frisson
We promise,
Kaleidoscope, we’ll come and listen!
